Join us for this special event celebrating and exploring the incredible life and career of Sidney Poitier.
We are delighted to announce that Jan Asante, co-editor of the Black Film Bulletin in BFI Sight and Sound Magazine, Ryan Calais Cameron, writer of the play Retrograde, and Nicole-Rachelle Moore, curator of the Caribbean Collections at the British Library, will join season curator Jonathan Ali for this event.

On the third anniversary of Sidney Poitier’s passing, join our special guests for a celebratory discussion about his legendary life and influential legacy. This panel discussion, hosted by season programmer Jonathan Ali, will consider Poitier’s key roles and films, positioning his filmography within the wider landscape of Hollywood and American culture. It will also reflect on his status as Hollywood’s first Black superstar and his role in inspiring future generations.
