Dir Jim Sheridan
With John Hurt, Richard Harris, Sean Bean, Brenda Fricker
Jim Sheridan’s take on John B Keane’s play is set in 1930s Western Ireland and features flawless performances. Farmer Bull McCabe (Harris) has rented a field for 30 years and is devastated when it’s put up for sale. Hurt plays the timorous Bird O’Donnell, who assists his old friend when an American stranger arrives with plans to build a hydroelectric plant.
