Fiddler on the Roof
Tradition, community and antisemitism: Fiddler feels more relevant than ever.
Dir Norman Jewison
With Topol, Norma Crane, Rosalind Harris
Topol is a force of nature as Tevye the milkman, a man determined to find husbands for his daughters in Tsarist Russia. Few musicals feel as pertinent as Fiddler, with its story of anti-semitism and a community forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods. Director Jewison does an extraordinary job in making you want to dance with joy one moment, then sob the next.
