Fårö Document 1979
Bergman revisits some of his previous interviewees – and meets a new generation of islanders.
Dir Ingmar Bergman
A decade after his first documentary about life on Fårö, Bergman revisits some of his interviewees – and meets a new generation – to learn how they cope with such ills as tourism, failing fish stocks, apathetic bureaucrats, bad weather, old age, illness, solitude and – inevitably – death. Shot in colour with loving attention to faces and the natural world, this is a film of grave beauty.
