Otto e mezzo
A filmmaker suffers creative block in Fellini’s partly autobiographical classic.
Dir Federico Fellini
With Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Cardinale, Anouk Aimée, Sandra Milo
Fellini’s partly autobiographical portrait of a filmmaker (Mastroianni) suffering from creative block while struggling to make a sci-fi epic offers a characteristically fantastic gallery of colourful characters and grotesques. It’s an almost purposefully ramshackle affair, more a series of startling scenes than a structured story, yet its distinctive blend of satire, surrealism and self-parody is held together by Nino Rota’s jaunty, catchy score.
