The famous ‘mirror-scene’ sequence alone would be enough to assure this Marx Brothers film cult status, but its lightning-paced, joke-heavy, music-laden depiction of the financially struggling nation of Freedonia and its highly dubious leader Rufus T Firefly (Groucho Marx at his best) mark it out as true, and highly influential, comedy classic. It was also the last film for Zeppo, the youngest Marx brother, who left acting to take up a successful career as a theatrical agent.
