When she encounters a free-spirited bohemian through messages in the personal ads of a newspaper, bored New Jersey housewife Roberta Glass finds her life turning upside down. Things become further complicated when her obsession leads to a case of mistaken identity, leaving Glass at the receiving end of unwanted attention and in no small amount of danger. Seidelman’s film turns 40 this year, but it remains as fresh and topical as ever. And Madonna was never better.
