This tense thriller deals with the confusion and turmoil in Europe following the end of the Second World War. Wrongly convicted of murder, Bogarde’s character escapes prison, trying to evade capture till he can prove his innocence. In a rare role deserving of her talents, Zetterling plays the quick-witted girlfriend who assists him, while the backdrop of post-war Germany compounds the atmosphere of despondency.
