Following his unsuccessful attempts to bring both The Stand and Pet Semetary to the screen, George A Romero turned instead to King’s novel about a writer pursued by the pseudonym he had recently laid to rest. The book was originally published after the author’s own nom de plume, Richard Bachman, became public knowledge, and this classy adaptation continues to explore King’s obsession with the writing process and the transformative powers of literature.
