Desperate for their next drug hit and holed up in a Manhattan loft, a group of sweaty, tense musicians break out into moody jazz and bouts of sparring. How will they make it through? Based on an original stage play, The Connection saw Clarke introduce a filmmaker character, which challenged the new ‘direct cinema’ documentary modes that were in ascent at the time.
