Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp falls for a flower seller in this silent classic with Chaplin’s own score.
Dir Charles Chaplin
With Charles Chaplin, Virginia Cherrill, Florence Lee
With Chaplin score
Charlie Chaplin’s classic features some hilarious slapstick moments as The Little Tramp falls for a flower seller and tries to find the money to pay for an operation to restore her sight. Despite being released in 1931, Chaplin chose to make City Lights as a silent film, which may have been a reason for it being overlooked by the awards voters (this version features Chaplin’s own score).
See the screening on Wed 6 Mar 18:20 with intro by film critic Pamela Hutchinson.
