Belgium 1968. Director Chantal Akerman. 13min. Digital (restoration)
A collection of films demonstrating how staunchly personal Akerman’s cinema was. At 17, she made four shorts as her entry ticket to film school. They show abiding subjects, among them, her mother. After she dropped out came her incendiary critique of domesticity and conformity, the Chaplinesque Saute ma ville, in which she plays the manic heroine. Almost 30 years later, she reflected on filmmaking in a playful self-portrait.
Total running time 90min.
The screening of Chantal Akerman par Chantal Akerman on Wednesday 12 February 20:15 NFT3 will be introduced by Helen de Witt, Club des Femmes.
