John Landis’ hugely entertaining musical-cum-chase caper sees Jake and Elwood Blues – the latter having just picked up the former following his release from prison – as they set out to reunite their band to raise money, in any way they can, for the Catholic orphanage that raised them. There are show-stopping turns by Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Ray Charles, amongst others, while the film’s Saturday Night Live roots give The Blues Brothers an air of pure, unrestrained comic anarchy.
