Alice through the Lens: an English event for KS2
Thu 1 Mar 2018 10:30 – 15:00
NFT3, BFI Southbank
This event is intended for teachers and students only.
This event is designed to introduce pupils to a literary ‘classic’ and takes the perennially favourite stories of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass as its focus to illustrate how these stories have been re-imagined over the years through the medium of film.
A range of ‘Alice’ films will be looked at: from the early 1905 silent adaptation of Alice from the National Film Archive, through the well-known Disney 1956 animation and a number of 60s and 70s TV and film star-studded versions, to the latest reincarnation by Tim Burton.
The morning will comprise a clip-based talk and interactive pupil activities - all linked to the literacy curriculum. In the afternoon there will be a screening of one of the Alice feature films. A teachers’ resource pack is also included.
Please note, as this is part of our World Book Day celebrations, pupils are invited to attend dressed up as their favourite Alice in Wonderland character and there will be prizes for the best costumes.
Suitable for KS2 English and Gifted & Talented pupils
£6 per pupil; £1 per adult accompanying every 5 pupils; for any additional adult the pupil rate applies. £40 for teachers attending without pupils.
Please note that schools should provide their own packed lunches.
‘Clearly delivered at the right pace and really engaging for pupils. The pupils’ and teachers’ booklets were highly thought provoking’

‘The event gives children an appreciation of life before special effects’
