Koreeda’s warm, witty film has the recently deceased searching their memories and finding happiness through film.
Dir Hirokazu Koreeda
With Arata, Erika Oda, Taketoshi Naito
Hirokazu Koreeda’s film is set in a limbo where the recently deceased are encouraged by counsellors to choose their most precious memory, which is then recreated on film so that they can take it with them for eternity. A warm, amusing, imaginative mix of fiction and documentary interviews, it succeeds both as a meditation on happiness and the power of memory and cinema, and as a celebration of human interaction.
