143 Sahara Street
143 rue du désert
A lonely place in the middle of the Algerian desert turns out to be not so lonely after all.

This documentary centers on Malika and her tea house, which is seemingly situated in the middle of nowhere. An easily ignored building overlooking a road filled with travelers, the tea house is a refuge where strangers can expect to find some intimacy and rest before they continue their journey. The film won the best emerging director award at Locarno in 2019 and is the director’s second feature.
