On the outskirts of Rio, a young man cares for his grandmother, who suffers from dementia. Here, young people navigate grief, friendship and survival within a tight-knit community. Vidigal foregrounds collective experience and lived territory, refusing familiar favela clichés. Vital and humane, the film signalled a new generation reshaping Brazilian on-screen representation – attentive to everyday resilience and the politics of who gets seen.
The screening of White House on Saturday 6 June will include a Q&A with director Luciano Vidigal.
BFI Riverfront will be closed on Wednesday 3 June. BFI Southbank will be closed Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June due to a private event.
