During a trip to a foreign country, Ester is taken ill, requiring both her and her travel companions, sister Anna and nephew Johan, to stay in a mostly vacant hotel. Through enigmatic encounters, unsettling silences and unspoken tensions, the sisters explore their sexuality, and desire for connection and understanding. Part of Bergman’s ‘Faith Trilogy’, The Silence is a provocative and haunting meditation on loneliness and the search for meaning in the modern world.
