Teresa is born into poverty and survives across decades using her wits and engaging in a life of petty crime. Based on the acclaimed novel by Dacia Maraini, Di Palma makes full use of Vitti’s range as she moves seamlessly between comedy, madness and tragedy, in an expansive drama that unfolds against the rich, event-laden backdrop of 20th-century Italy.
Contains sexist attitudes and language, and scenes of suicide and self-harm.
