The first three documentaries were made by the BBC to showcase pre-war television from Alexandra Palace. The final film marked the service re-opening in June 1946 and looked back to pre-war transmissions, with recreated sequences from the earlier programmes. They were first shown on the opening day and variations of them followed over subsequent weeks and months.
