Isabelle Huppert is on sparkling form as one of a pair of con artists grifting their way along the Swiss-French border, until a mark with his own agenda complicates the arrangement. Chabrol works in a lighter, more playful register, but a cold edge remains. It’s a caper film that understands, as all the best ones do, that the line between predator and prey is always thinner than it seems.
Contains scenes of graphic violence or injury.
The screening of The Swindle on Saturday 3 October will be introduced by Claude Chabrol’s daughter and collaborator Cécile Maistre-Chabrol.
Temporary VAT-reduced rate for children: prices have been adjusted for all under 16’s tickets booked between 25 June and 1 September for screenings during the same period.
