During the German occupation, a working-class woman performs illegal abortions and achieves, for the first time, something resembling financial independence and self-determination. Isabelle Huppert is ferocious in one of her finest performances. It’s a film of controlled fury – an indictment not of its protagonist’s actions but of the state that will ultimately use them as a pretext to destroy her.
Contains themes of abortion, domestic violence or abuse and graphic violence or injury.
Temporary VAT-reduced rate for children: prices have been adjusted for all under 16’s tickets booked between 25 June and 1 September for screenings during the same period.
