Polanski’s Short Films
Early shorts from Roman Polanski, showing his talent both behind and in front of the camera.
Synopsis
Polanski’s prodigious talent, both behind and in front of the camera, can be found in his frequently superb shorts. Some, like Let’s Break Up the Ball (Rozbijemy, 1957) and Murder (Moderstwo, 1957) are authentically dark; Two Men and a Wardrobe (Dwaj ludzie z szafa, 1957), Mammals (Ssaki, 1962) and The Fat and the Lean (Gros et le maigre, 1961) boast absurdist comedy; When Angels Fall (Gdy spadaja anioly, 1959) is surprisingly poignant. Also playing: A Toothful Smile (Usmiech Zebiczny, 1959) and The Lamp (Lampa,1959).
Total running time c83min. Some EST.
The screening on Mon 14 Jan will be introduced by film historian Michael Brooke.
