Cutting a cool figure among the French New Wave is Suzanne Schiffman, a writer and filmmaker who began her career working regularly with Godard and Truffaut as a ‘script girl’ (continuity supervisor). She later collaborated with Jacques Rivette to create this boundary-pushing behemoth of French cinema. Out 1 is a politically charged tale of acting troupes, paranoia and conspiracy, fuelled by experiments of improvisation intrepidly captured on hand-held 16mm.
