Monica Vitti’s final collaboration with Antonioni is adapted from a play that Jean Cocteau wrote for Italian television. It tells the story of a queen in mourning who dares a young would-be assassin to kill her. Shot on video, the film is notable for its complex experiments with colour and Vitti’s poignant performance.
