This adaptation of the beloved comic strip about a female international spy offers a mind-bending pastiche of ‘Swinging Sixties’ clichés. Vitti plays the titular agent – her first English-speaking role – and dazzles in an array of sensational costumes and poses, ably supported by fellow ’60s icons Stamp and Bogarde. Witty, subversive and highly silly, the film has become a cult – and camp – classic.
Screening with a BBC interview with Monica Vitti (1966, 8min).
