Fritz Lang’s expressionistic masterpiece, tells the story of Freder, the son of the master of Metropolis who tries, through his love for the heroine Maria, to bring peace to the torn city. Lang conveys Freder’s nightmarish vision of a destroyed underground factory as a symbolic, grotesque deity architecturally and the film’s stylistic techniques and design have influenced directors throughout cinema history.
