Marilyn on Marilyn
BBC 2001. Director Paul Kerr. 60min. Digital
A poetic documentary employing audio tapes of the two significant interviews conducted with Monroe (for Marie Claire France and Life magazine). Monroe’s voice is layered with visuals from her films and media appearances, alongside previously unseen footage from her childhood.
+ Norma Jean Alias Marilyn Monroe
ITV 1987. Directors Marcia Lerner, André Romus. 55min. Digital
The Marie Claire France interview also appears here. The recording is played to actor Catherine Deneuve, who responds in turn. It proves a fascinating exercise – to hear Monroe’s testimony twinned with the insight and perspective of a contemporary star.
