One of esteemed filmmaker Mackendrick’s lesser-known films, Mandy is a heartfelt and often poignant tale of a deaf girl (played by Mandy Miller, who delivers one of the finest child performances in cinema) and the efforts of her mother and teacher to help her connect with the world. The story unfolds as a subtle metaphor for a traumatised nation learning how to communicate once again in a time of peace.
