The most entertaining heist movie made on these shores, Forbes’ witty adaptation of John Boland’s novel features a motley troop of demobbed men who, struggling with civilian life, direct their military skills towards a daring robbery. Dearden keeps the plot bowling along and, across an excellent ensemble cast, each actor exploits their character’s foibles to perfection.
