La Rupture

A woman attempting to leave her volatile husband finds herself enmeshed in a conspiracy that grows steadily, sickeningly out of control. Frequently compared to Park Chan Wook’s Decision to Leave, La Rupture finds Chabrol working in a more overtly melodramatic mode, and all the more disturbing for it. A film about the institutions that fail women and the men who exploit them, it feels, in the best possible sense, completely unhinged.
