Babenco’s masterful adaptation of Manuel Puig’s novel is a moving tale of friendship and fantasy. Journalist Valentin, who has been tortured for his political beliefs, and queer window-dresser Molina are imprisoned together by a repressive military dictatorship. Over time they develop an unexpected relationship. The film earned Babenco an Oscar nomination for Best Director and saw William Hurt take home the Best Actor award.
Contains scenes of violence, abuse and torture.
