In the early 1960s, the Soviet Union’s first nuclear-powered ballistic submarine journeys into the Arctic to test its missile launching capabilities. During the mission, the crew discover the vessel’s nuclear reactor is leaking, putting their lives at risk and threatening to destabilise the geopolitical balance. Bigelow’s tense submarine drama turns survival into a ticking clock, exploring her interest in human nature under pressure, when duty and danger collide in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments.
