A film about ‘a woman in trouble’, Inland Empire follows an actress cast in an impossible film, who finds it difficult to navigate the blurred lines between reality and artifice. Her descent is perfectly portrayed by Laura Dern in another great Lynch collaboration. Shot without a script and on digital video – ‘giving more room to dream’ – Lynch’s final feature is a gripping experimental masterpiece.
