In early 1960s Hong Kong, Chow Mo-wan and Su Li-zhen move with their spouses into neighbouring apartments. A hotel room, the symbolic 2046, becomes a refuge for Mo-wan and Li-zhen feelings as their relationship gets closer. Kar Wai’s exquisite film – perfectly designed, shot and scored – is visually and emotionally ravishing; a heartbreaking masterpiece of longing, desire and the pressure of societal expectations.
