Four distinct chapters capture Cuba on the brink of revolutionary transformation. The remarkable opening sequence, and its electrifying long take set on a rooftop of a wealthy hotel, not only emphasises I Am Cuba’s extraordinary cinematography, it also signals pre-revolutionary inequalities on the island and among its people. Part-communist agitprop, part-hymn to social revolution, this is one of cinema’s most vibrant explorations and celebrations of the spirit of revolution.
The screening of I Am Cuba on Wednesday 19 August will be introduced by film curator and writer Jonathan Ali.
