A full-blooded family saga-cum- melodrama taken from a lesser-known novel by Daphne du Maurier, and adapted by her and Terence Young. The Brodricks, an Anglo-Irish family, have been feuding with the Donovans for generations. Long simmering antagonisms ignite with the Brodricks’ plan to open a copper mine. Predictably, no good can come from this and complications abound when Fanny Rosa (Lockwood) plays fast and loose with the affections of two Brodrick brothers.
The screening will be introduced by Allan Esler Smith, relative and biographer of the film’s director, Brian Desmond Hurst.
