Synopsis

One of the enduring comedies of remarriage, with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant as the divorcing couple who, if they can’t be happy together, find it even more impossible to be happy apart. Given the poise and sharpness of the dialogue it’s remarkable that much of it was improvised (Bellamy recalled McCarey telling him, ‘we’d have lots of fun but there wasn’t any script’). McCarey won the best director Oscar and the film was nominated in five other categories.
