Fleeing from a criminal past, lovers Sailor and Lula set out from their seedy North Carolina town to escape to utopian California. But the corrupt and dangerous underbelly of America is ever-present. Arguably Lynch’s most romantic film, Wild at Heart is an ode to intense, idiosyncratic love and fantastical dreams in the face of a violent, unforgiving world.
