Every day, 10-year-old Wadjda walks past a shop window featuring a beautiful green bicycle, dreaming of when she will own it and race the boy from her neighbourhood. Although Saudi Arabian norms say bikes are not for girls, she devises a plan to raise money to buy it. Balancing harsh realities with hopeful storytelling, the first Saudi Arabian feature by a female filmmaker is an absolute triumph.
The screening of Wadjda on Wednesday 17 June will be introduced by Sarah Agha, The Arab Film Club curator.
Temporary VAT-reduced rate for children: prices have been adjusted for all under 16’s tickets booked between 25 June and 1 September for screenings during the same period.
