Sullivan’s Travels
In Preston Sturges’s astute comedy, Joel McCrea’s film producer travels the US without money to embrace the themes of his next movie.
Unfortunately July 2026 screenings of this title are cancelled due to an ongoing rights issue. We apologise for any disappointment.

Perhaps the most ambitious of Sturges’ best work, this fine road movie is also a terrific screwball comedy and one of Hollywood’s greatest films about filmmaking. Sullivan’s Travels is also a political work, tackling the American Depression, albeit it with the deftest of touches. It would subsequently exert a sizeable influence on the work of Joel and Ethan Coen, particularly their inventive 2000 homage, O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
