In 1900, a group of young girls from a remote private school in the Southeastern Australian state of Victoria set off with their teachers for a day out at a nearby volcanic formation, known as Hanging Rock. But during the trip some of the party mysteriously disappear. A unique work of ethereal beauty, Weir’s first masterpiece showcases his extraordinary command of atmosphere and emotion.
New 35mm print made with funding from the National Lottery. With thanks to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.
