In 1900, a group of young girls from a remote private school in the Southeastern Australian state of Victoria set off with their teachers for a day out at a nearby volcanic formation, known as Hanging Rock. But during the trip some of the party mysteriously disappear. A unique work of ethereal beauty, Weir’s first masterpiece showcases his extraordinary command of atmosphere and emotion.
The 35mm screening of Picnic at Hanging Rock (Director’s Cut) on Monday 30 March will include an extended intro by season curator Elena Lazic.
