Forced to flee their home in Uganda, an Indian family emigrates to Mississippi to run a motel. While her parents grapple with the trauma of displacement, young Mina quickly adapts to American life. After two chance run-ins with Washington’s carpet cleaner Demetrius, she begins to fall deeply in love with him. But the prejudices of their conservative families threaten to upend this blossoming romance.
