Working on a budget vastly superior to his 1979 original, Miller’s adrenaline-fuelled tale of savagery builds to an impressively staged car chase that plays out across the final third of the film. An existential composite of other genres – most significantly the Western – Mad Max 2 (also more aptly known as The Road Warrior) is an exquisitely executed exercise in mayhem, with the director realising his desire to invoke the heady thrill of Buster Keaton’s 1926 classic The General.
Contains scenes of graphic violence and sexual violence.
