Lost Star – The Rediscovery of the Transnational Stardom of Belinda Lee with Steve Chibnall
Steve Chibnall uncovers a forgotten film star’s meteoric rise and fall, from English seaside fame to American exile, revealing postwar challenges to respectability and stardom.
- Total running time 90min
Professor Steve Chibnall (De Montfort University) traces the journey of one of the great forgotten stars of British and European cinema who, between 1953 and 1961, captivated the attention of journalists because she challenged the conventions of respectability and stardom. The journey began in the sunlight of the English seaside and ended in the moonlight of an American desert. Steve will also discuss his 15-year search for this ‘lost star’ and the way her rediscovery has shone a light on the cultural changes she witnessed.
