In San Fernando Valley 1973, Gary Valentine, a 15-year-old former child actor and budding entrepreneur, meets Alana Kane, a bored and aimless 25-year-old working as an assistant at his school yearbook photo shoot. Gary is instantly smitten and while Alana naturally rejects him, a fun and unlikely friendship blossoms. Paul Thomas Anderson’s freewheeling romance is gloriously shot on film, with a joyous and evocative soundtrack, and features two outstanding film debuts: musician Alana Haim (from the band Haim) and Cooper Hoffman (the son of Philip Seymour Hoffman).
