This stunningly shot tale of faith and familial obligation is set in an impoverished village, where an elderly couple struggles to deal with their well-intentioned but impulsive adult son Naran, who lives with a mental disability. He is loathed by the men in the village. Lacking social support and under increasing pressure, the parents decide to take the young man to the Maha Kumbh Mela, a giant religious gathering, where miracles may happen.
Contains scenes of ableism.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion looking at disability in rural India.
BFI Southbank will be closed Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June due to a private event. BFI Riverfront will be closed on 9 July until 5pm. It will re-open in the evening.
