As a critic and agitator, Lindsay Anderson supported various fellow pioneers in their efforts to reimagine cinema. In the 1950s, he helped bring these two unusual films to the screen. James Broughton’s The Pleasure Garden, in which Anderson stars, finds queer-tinged, poetic whimsy at Crystal Palace, where desire and pleasure win out over depressive prudes. Together, by Anderson’s friend Lorenza Mazzetti, meanwhile, stalks the haunting, bomb-devastated vistas of post-war London.
Please note that this 35mm shows signs of wear and tear, as expected from a release print of its age. It is the best print available, and we hope this won't affect your viewing.
