Written and directed by Anders, this musical comedy-drama follows Philadelphia teen Edna Buxton, who reinvents herself as performer Denise Waverly after winning a talent contest. Moving to New York, she struggles as a singer but discovers success writing songs for others in the early days of rock ‘n’ roll. With guidance from savvy producer Joel Millner and partnership with Howard Caszatt, Denise navigates the mid-1960s pop scene, chasing recognition, independence, and a long-delayed chance to step into the spotlight.
